PROPHETS ARE ALIVE PHYSICALLY IN THEIR GRAVES
The true belief of the Ahlus Sunnah is that the Prophets of ALLAH Alayhimussalam did indeed “TASTE” death, but they are made Alive in Their Blessed Graves.
Note: All the proofs misused by certain people do prove that Prophets including Our Nabi Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam had tasted death. We do believe in all those Verses and Hadees, so there is no two opinions about that point but the point to be discussed here is not the occurrence of death but the true concept of the death of a Prophet, It is in the grave that the Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam is presented with our deeds, and makes supplication on behalf of the Ummah.
There are also instances where the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam will appear in our dreams and comfort us with good news and glad tidings. We also believe that to send salaam (salutations) to our Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam is directly received by Him and also that He Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam by His Mercy do reply to our Salaam. We shall prove the life after tasting the death of ordinary people, Martyrs and of Awliya of ALLAH and then ponder on the Physical Lives of The Prophets of ALLAH (which is again beyond our comprehension).
Lives of The Prophets of Allah Alaihimussalam
[Nisa 4:157, 158] And because they said, “We have killed the Messiah, Eisa the son of Maryam, the Messenger of Allah”; they did not slay him nor did they crucify him, but a look-alike was created for them; and those who disagree concerning it are in doubt about it; they know nothing of it, except the following of assumptions; and without doubt, they did not kill him. In fact Allah raised him towards Himself; and Allah is Almighty, Wise. [Maryam 19:56, 57] And remember Idrees in the Book; he was indeed very truthful, a Prophet. And We lifted him to a high position. (Living with soul & body in heaven, after his death.)Nabi e Kareem Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, ‘On the night on which I was taken [i.e. on the Night of Ascension], I came to Musa Alayhissalam at the red dune, and He was standing, praying in his grave.’” (Sahih Muslim 2375, Sunan Nasaai 1631]
The above Hadees elaborates that Nabi Musa Alayhissalam was physically present whilst praying Salah in His Blessed Grave. Saying that only his soul was praying and not Himself in person is in direct contradiction to the Hadees.
Nabi e Kareem Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, The Prophets are alive in their graves and praying. (Imam Bayhaqi, Imam Ibn Hajar Asqalani in Fat’hul Baari and in Lisaan ul Mizan, Imam Haytami in Majma uz Zawaaid and in Tuhfat ul MuhtImam Ibn Aabideen in Shaami, Ibn Asaakir in tareekh Dimashq, Albani in Ahkaam ul Janaaiz)
Nabi e Kareem Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said: I found myself in Hijr and the Quraish were asking me about my night journey. I was asked about things pertaining to Bait-ul- Maqdis which I could not preserve (in my mind). I was very much vexed, so vexed as I had never been before. Then ALLAH raised it (Bait-ul-Maqdis) before my eyes. I looked towards it, and I gave them the information about whatever they questioned me I also saw myself among the group of Apostles. I saw Musa Alaihissalam saying prayer and found Him to be a well-built Man as if He was a Man of the tribe of Shanu’a. I saw Eesa son of Maryam Alaihissalam offering prayer, of all of Men He had the closest resemblance with ‘Urwa b. Masu’d al-Thaqafi. I saw Ibrahim Alaihissalam offering prayer; He had the closest resemblance with your Companion (the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam himself) amongst people. When the time of prayer came I led them. When I completed the prayer, someone said: Here is Maalik, the keeper of the Hell; pay Him salutations. I turned to him, but he preceded Me in salutation. (Sahih Muslim Book 1 Hadees 328)
Thus to conclude, the life of the Prophets in their graves is the real, physical life which they used to live in this world. It is not merely a ‘spiritual’ life like that of the martyrs. This is why the wealth left in inheritance by the Prophets is not distributed; nor can their wives marry anyone else after them. Contrary to this, the wealth left in inheritance by the martyrs can be distributed and their wives can marry anyone after their death.
